Raped? Better cough up some cash...
A notes writer over on the resurrected PLATO system posted a note that alerted me to Wasilla's policy towards rape victims while she was mayor:
Palin's Town Charges Women for Rape Exams...
Compassionate conservatism, indeed. But, at least she's constant.
(An aside, Ralph Waldo Emerson said it well, back in the day:
Back in the 90's she was protesting abortion rights (see: Salon Article ).
Other than it goes against everything that I've fought against since the 70's (yes, I've been in that fight that long), it's most worrisome considering what President Palin could do: appoint a bunch of Supreme Court judges that would totally move the judicial system to the far right for years if not decades. And, we're not talking about simple things like judging on the death penalty. Oh no... we are talking about things that effect every person. Access to birth control; access to a safe abortion; access to basic human rights.
So, what is it? Do we want someone who has proven she kicks down the rights of women or someone who has shown through his life that he supports women?
Tell your friends that are shifting on the borderline about this. Being anti-abortion, well, that's understandable. Charging rape victims for their own exams, that's over the edge. What's next, "Sorry sir, you'll have to pay for the forensic tests on that bullet in your chest."
UPDATE:
A further note on PLATO gives a reason for why Palin may have wanted to block Rape Kits for the police.

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.but I digress...)

...they may contain "Plan B" pills to prevent pregnancy by blocking implantation. In Palin's glassy-eyed religious fanaticism, a just-fertilized egg is a "human life" and the "morning after" pill is abortion.Just swell.
