Exporting Oil

Just because you can see Russia from Alaska doesn't make Sarah a foreign policy expert.

Just because they pull a lot of oil out of the ground in Alaska apparently doesn't make you an oil policy expert either.

A questioner in a Wisconsin town-hall style meeting (which really don't resemble any town halls I've ever seen) asked Sarah whether the government blocks oil exports (see: Seattle Times Article).  He'd heard that 75% of Alaskan oil was ending up in China.  Sarah said:
"No. It's not 75 percent of our oil being exported," Palin said, suggesting some of Alaska's oil may be going abroad but not that much. "In fact," she added, "Congress is pretty strict on, um, export bans of oil and gas especially."
Sorry, Sarah.  You got it wrong yet again.  There isn't any ban.  Never has been.  For a person who touts herself as an "expert" on energy she sure can screw up on some basic information about our national energy policy.  I guess that evens out the ticket on dumb knowledge.  Like knowing what a planetarium projector actually is...

I guess we'll see more on Sarah today as the Troopergate report is published.
